The transducer materials, crossover design and geometry applied in the OBERON C series have been selected to achieve a wide dispersion pattern. This ensures a well-integrated sound, even when listening at a significant off-axis angle.
An added advantage is the great reduction of harmonic distortion and diffractions that cause frequency distortion. This is the reason why all DALI loudspeakers are not designed to be placed edge-on.
The SOUND HUB COMPACT transmits to OBERON C loudspeakers using a patented 30-bit wireless protocol derived from the acclaimed DALI SOUND HUB.
Audio transmission latency from input to speaker is typically less than 15 mS, and synchronization between speakers is accurate to the single sample period of the transmitted audio data.
The iron pole of the OBERON C woofer magnet is topped by DALI's patented SMC disc - minimizing the negative effects of iron.
The use of the SMC disc greatly reduces mechanical distortion, which decreases third-order distortion. This allows for longer listening pleasure, a relaxed midrange and a surprising amount of detail for its price class.
The power amplification of the OBERON C consists of two 50 watt peak, closed-loop Class D power amplifiers, specifically chosen for their sound quality and dynamic capability. One amplifier powers the high frequency driver and the other the bass/midrange driver (or twin drivers in the case of the OBERON 7 C).
The OBERON VOKAL C was designed with TV audio in mind and despite its compact dimensions, the audio performance is comparable to much larger speakers.
The compact, low-profile enclosure is equipped with a 5.25" DALI wood fiber cone transducer with SMC and an ultra-lightweight 29 mm DALI soft dome tweeter.
The compactness of the enclosure facilitates its integration in any room. To achieve a wide dispersion pattern in the listening area, the materials and geometry of the transducers applied in the OBERON VOKAL C have been carefully selected. The same principles have been applied to the crossover design.
As a result, you will experience a well-integrated sound, even when listening at a significant off-axis angle. This is important, as you are rarely sitting directly in front of the speakers when listening to music. An added benefit is that harmonic distortion and diffractions that cause frequency distortion are greatly reduced, as these will always be stronger in an on-axis response.
The OBERON VOKAL C is based on a 5.25" bass/midrange transducer incorporating DALI's proprietary fine paper pulp and reinforced wood fiber composite diaphragm materials, which create a rigid, lightweight and well-behaved structure. Combined with a low-loss spider and wrap-around suspension, this cone reproduces the micro-details of the signal, unfiltered and with high accuracy.
This is aided by the advanced copper-clad aluminum voice coil cable and, in particular, our unique SMC (Soft Magnetic Composite) magnet technology.
By introducing electrically non-conductive elements into the magnet structure, SMC significantly reduces the effect of various distortion mechanisms inherent in moving coil transducer architecture. For example, SMC minimizes the effects of eddy currents, increases flux linearity, reduces magnetic hysteresis, and minimizes the variation of voice coil inductance with position.
On set, these advantages make the equipped transducers with SMC are especially suitable for active amplification.
The membrane ends in a rubber liner chosen for its soft and very flexible properties. This gives the membrane free movement with a very low damping effect, and lets the magnetic motor control the movement of the membrane.
The OBERON VOKAL C power amplification consists of two 50 watt peak, closed-loop, Class D power amplifiers, specifically chosen for their sound quality and dynamic capability. One amplifier powers the high frequency driver and the other the bass/midrange driver.
The 100 dB signal-to-noise ratio of the power amplifiers ensures that even the smallest detail of a quiet musical passage is reproduced with clarity and precision.
The electronics module mounted on the rear panel of the loudspeaker incorporates a wireless receiver element and user setup interface, a DSP equalization and crossover filter element, and a high-efficiency two-channel power amplifier with a tightly integrated power supply.
The amplifier is powered by a custom-designed, very low-noise switched-mode supply (65 W(rms)), capable of dynamically sharing resources between the amplifier's two channels in response to demand. The OBERON VOKAL C is, as a result, unusually frugal in terms of power consumption, yet gives nothing away in terms of dynamic punch when the music demands it.
The high frequency transducer is a damped textile soft dome tweeter with an unusually light diaphragm and a larger than usual 29 mm voice coil and diaphragm. The lightweight diaphragm means that the transducer's upper frequency response is unusually wide before its mass-limited roll-off.
The large diameter diaphragm and voice coil increase sensitivity and power, reduce distortion, and allow the driver to operate at lower frequencies than smaller tweeters, helping to provide more latitude in the crossover design.
To further increase power and significantly reduce signal compression as the voice coil temperature increases with increasing volume, the transducer is equipped with ferrofluid in the voice coil gap.
OBERON's VOKAL C cabinets are manufactured from high strength CNC machined MDF panels and finished with a variety of wood effect or matte white laminates.
The enclosures are designed to provide optimum rigidity and minimize panel resonance, with corner pieces. Corner fillets are becoming less common in contemporary cabinet construction, but at DALI we believe they play an important role in ensuring rigidity.
The enclosure's internal damping materials are strategically selected and placed to maximize the attenuation of midrange energy without degrading transient response and bass bandwidth, as is often the case with reflex loading loudspeakers.
