Topping D10s

The Topping D10s is a new revised version of the mythical Topping D10s.

The D10s is a desktop DAC with impressive capabilities in its price range. This second version includes a 32-bit ESS ES3838Q2M high fidelity ESS decoding chip, as well as an XMOS U208 USB interface with a custom Thesycon driver to cover most high-resolution audio formats (up to PCM 384kHz / DSD 256).

With analog and digital outputs, it is the solution of choice for any compact and scalable hi-fi installation with many integration options.

At the cutting edge of technology, the Topping D10 DAC uses an ES9038Q2M chip from ESS Technology. This component is among the best current hardware solutions for high-fidelity audio decoding, especially with the famous HYPERSTREAM 32 BIT architecture.

This chip model is also equipped with advanced reconstruction filters and has excellent screening finesse.

The Q2M version is particularly appreciated in desktop and mobile devices, as it consumes little power and offers excellent performance while enabling an extremely space-saving design and form factor.

The USB-B input (USB-2 standard) operates via an XMOS U208 USB interface. This is a reference component that no longer has to prove itself in the hi-fi music world, and supports very high resolution / high sample rate digital streams for an accurate, rich and detailed listening experience.

This USB interface has an asynchronous architecture capable of overcoming digital noise and source jitter if the latter does not have reference clocks suitable for high-fidelity audio use.

This significantly increases audio accuracy compared to DACs and sound cards traditionally found in the general consumer market.

The output stage of the D10s is driven by an operational amplifier LME49720NA mounted on a DIP8 bracket. The OPA is removable and can be easily replaced by the user for testing purposes and to find the best sound signature according to one's personal preferences.

Please note that this operation is not recommended for users with no experience with operational amplifiers. Any improper model or incorrect installation may damage the device.

The analog output is available on a stereo RCA connector. Simply connect it to a preamplifier connected to a power amplifier, integrated amplifier or passive loudspeakers and the audio system is operational.

It is also possible to connect the analog output to a headphone amplifier and take advantage of all the qualities of the D10 when listening with headphones.

The D10s has a digital output available on a coaxial SPDIF connector as well as an optical SPDIF connector. This output supports up to 24-bit audio streams at 192 kHz and can re-encode 1-bit streams (DSD) up to DOP64.

This feature, generally absent from this price range, allows you to skip the conversion stage and use the D10 as a USB to S/PDIF interface.

Then, the D10s can interface your computer on the fly with any S/PDIF device, a particularly useful feature for audiophiles who already own a powerful DAC that lacks a USB input.

The USB-B input on the right end provides connection to your computer / OTG smartphone in addition to powering the device. Therefore, the latter does not require an additional cable for its power supply allowing for clean and space-saving installations, even for the most space-constrained desktop.

With its dimensions of 103 mm (W) x 146 mm (D) x 37 mm (H), the D10s is one of the most compact desktop DACs available on the market.

The device is housed in an elegant 100% brushed aluminum casing. A robust and durable material capable of effectively blocking any noise related to the proximity of other electronic devices, thus avoiding unwanted interference in the audio signal.

The D10s has a very elegant display on the front. It respects the color chart of the Toppping devices and allows complex installations with multiple Topping products with a homogeneous overall style.

The display shows in real time the encoding type of the audio files being played (PCM / DSD) as well as the sample rate of the digital stream. It allows you to check at a glance that the conversion is going as planned and that the DAC is operating under the best conditions.
